Don't worry if you change your mind - you can halt this feature at any time if you like.
Special Features and Bonuses of Sugar Trail
Sugar Trail is actually very enjoyable to play even without the special features - it's a colourful fun slots game that will keep you entertained throughout. It does, however, have some unique bonus features that are sure to satisfy even the most seasoned gamers. As well as fairly standard wild symbols that substitute for all symbols except for scatter or bonus symbols, you'll also come across Flying Wilds and Respins Locked Wilds.
The Flying Wild appears in the Wild Candy Free Spins bonus round, and the Respins Locked Wild shows up in the Sugar Lock Respins bonus. The game also has a total of three scatters - the King Gummy Bear, Queen Gummy Bear and Prince Gummy Bear. These trigger the Wild Candy Free Spins, the Sugar Lock Respins and the Sugar Cash bonus features respectively.
The Wild Candy Free Spins bonus feature sees extra Flying Wilds added to the reels, and, even better, additional free spins can be triggered during this feature. The Sugar Lock Respins feature boasts Locked Wilds with the potential for some incredible prizes.
Finally, the Sugar Cash feature provides cash prizes and some generous multipliers. As you might expect, the special features are as fun and colourful as the base game.
Sugar Trail can be played across a variety of platforms, meaning you can enjoy this colourful game on your PC or laptop, mobile and tablet. You'll find the same great design and fantastic prizes across all versions of the game, whether you're playing at home or on the move. Our other free slots games are just as flexible and fun.

Moreover, lovely jelly bears will give each player one of three bonus rounds at Sugar Trail slot. These bonuses increase the chances of winning and help you return most of the bets which you made previously. And yet you are being waited for three wild symbols, each of which has a special ability. By the way, the game has 40 pay lines, and the maximum reward is 1000 coins. The information on the percentage of payments is absent, but this fact will not prevent your victory. This game is dedicated not only for children but also for adults.
Review and recommendations by our testing team
- Sugar Trail slot is not popular among players because of the candy theme of the slot, as well as the low potential of it to give a big win, even with game’s lot of different bonus features.
- In the usual spins, the slot rarely gives out large winnings, despite the fact it can give you a row of wild symbols because the combinations are often broken by the three types of scatter symbols. The maximum win that we got the usual spins was only 11x bets, and, often, the winnings range from less than the nominal bet size to only a few bets, which, again, is mostly done by large series of no-win spins.
- The trigger of bonus feature is happening often due to the low potential of getting a large win in them, but at the same time, in periods when the slot is "cold", it often gives only 2 scatter of Kind. In periods when the slot is "hot" or at long distances, triggering a series of bonus features almost one after another.
- The Sugar Rush bonus feature is an instant win. The player is offered 3 special bonus reels. The first win can be from 1 to 3 bets, the second - 0×5-1×5 bets and multiplier up to X3, and the third - from 0x5 to 2x and multiplier up to X5. This bonus is not able to give the big win, and the win in it is 5x-15x total bets, and less often - up to 30x. It was not possible to get more than 30x bets during testing.
- The "Sugar Lock Respin" bonus feature also triggers special bonus reels. The first of them is giving from 0.5x to 1.5x bets or 1 wild, the second - from 3 to 5 wild, and the third - from 1 to 3 spins. After you get the prizes from those reels, the slot returns to the usual spins, and wild symbols take their positions on the reels, staying on their position for all the free spins (more free spins can be won). Even with the high potential of the bonus feature to give a large win (when you get good positioning on wild symbols and getting some high paid symbols after), most of the time the win is 20x-40x bets, with some winnings of 5x-15x and rare, more than 40x total bets. The maximum win received during testing did not exceed the value of 70x bets.
- Bonus feature "Wild Candy Free Spins" triggers the well-known bonus reels. The first is having 1x to 3x bets or 1-2 spins, the second - from 6 to 10 spins, and the third - from 1 to 3 wild symbols.
- Unlike the previous bonus, here wild symbols are no longer fixed in their position, and move with each spin, going in different positions. At the same time, during the free spins, the bonus feature can be triggered, during which more wild symbol is given, and during the tests, it was possible to get up to plus 5 wild symbols. This bonus feature has the highest potential for giving a large win, but, most of the time the win is only 40x-60x bets, and sometimes 10x-20x. The maximum win in the slot was just over 100x total bets.
Sugar Trail slot is good at keeping your balance because it is triggering bonus features a lot. While playing for real money, I would not recommend Sugar Trail for long gaming sessions because of the low potential of the slot, so only short gaming sessions in an attempt to get a series of several average wins.
Personal testers opinion
Sugar Trail slot machine left the positive emotions after testing. Neutral recommendations about completing the bonus requirements; wagering - 5.58 point out of 10. Also, the pay combinations are often found here, and free spins are triggers (Statistically) in every 98th spin (1.02%). The prize pool is separated almost equal between the main game and bonus feature, 53% of it is for the usual spins, and the rest is for the bonus feature.

Sugar Trail Slot Review
This video slot machine can be attributed to the category of unusual ones, because the theme is quite naive and childish. Imagine that you decided to make sweet presents to kids and went to the confectionery department of a children’s supermarket. As soon as you entered, mountains of colorful sweets grew in front of you. If you add numerals and letters of playing cards, you will receive the Sugar Trail online slot invented by Quickspin. The developers decided to remind those old days when chewing gums with a taste of fruit replaced money payouts in Las Vegas casinos.
On five reels, you will notice forty pay-lines with candies that replaced tasty fruits. These sweets will scroll around to provide you with real money wins instead of fruit chewing gums. Walking along the sugar trail, you will meet blue, green and purple bears that will open the door leading into the world of bonus sweet puzzles with wonderful payouts.
The slot control panel
The Sugar Trail slot is quite simple to manage. To force sugar bears and candies to create sweet winning lines, the gambler ought to push an orange key with a swirling arrow. An orange small square with the letter “I” will allow the gambler to get acquainted with the rules of the slot, the variety of combinations of all forty winning pay-lines, as well as terms for receiving payouts and bonus programs.
An orange field with a white gear is responsible for technical settings in the sugar trail. The Balance sector displays current points of the gambler. The Total Bet sector is intended to adjust bets up to 80 coins. The Win sector reflects the quantity of the points won. The gambler can turn on the Autoplay regime clicking a double circular arrow.
The sweet journey on the slot
During a sweet journey on the sugar reels of the slot, the player will face three kinds of wild elements, such as Regular Wild, Flying Wild, and Re-Spins Wild. All of the wilds can occupy the places of any regular elements except bonus ones. Regular wild candies appear during common scrolling. Flying Wild pops up when Free Spins starts, and Re-Spins Wild jumps out during the launch of Re-spins Locked Wilds.
While walking the sugar paths in the country of sweet delicacies, the gambler will encounter three kinds of scattered bears: blue, green and purple. Each bear has its own bonus program and a set of reels. The purple bear likes the reels No. 1, 2 and 3; the green bear likes the reels No. 2, 3 and 4, while the blue bear likes to walk along the reels No. 3, 4 and 5. When three bears of the same color come together on the reels, the Sugar Trail slot invites the gambler to participate in one of its bonus programs.
The purple bears are programmed for Free Spins. During this program, the purple bear can turn into Flying Wild and bring more free rotations. The green bears are programmed for Re-spins. During the Sugar Lock Re-spins program, three green bears will be locked in their places and stay there during free rotations. The blue bears are represented in the Sugar Cash Bonus program. When the blue bear pops up on the reels, the gambler can obtain more points and multipliers.
Find your chocolate victory
The slot theme will not seem so childish for the gambler when he or she pushes the start button. In order to understand all the aspects of sweet gambling, the gambler should thoroughly examine the rules and terms of the Sugar Trail slot.
The demo regime does not oblige the gambler to register or conduct any mandatory download of the game. The user can walk along the sugar trail for free. The Sugar Trail slot wishes you to quickly find your sweet strategy, which will lead you to a chocolate victory.
Maple syrup fun in the Ottawa region
Canada’s capital region loves to celebrate the sweet, natural treat that is maple syrup in all its edible forms—and it’s even used in local spa products! Although the liquid gold is served in restaurants and available for purchase year round, the annual maple season (roughly February through April, weather depending) is the best time to visit sugar shacks within the city of Ottawa and in the nearby countryside.
Some of the usual experiences, such as gourmet meals, horse-drawn sleigh rides and tours, may not be available in 2021 season due to COVID-19. But the sap will flow! Here are a few delicious highlights for the 2021 maple season in the Ottawa area this late winter and spring.
Note: Due to COVID-19, some of the offerings mentioned below may change. Please contact each business directly to confirm details and consult our page Visiting Ottawa safely during COVID-19.
Maple facts
- Maple sap starts flowing through the trees when outdoor temperatures reach about +5° Celsius (41° Fahrenheit) during the day, and -5° Celsius (23° Fahrenheit) during the night.
- To produce one litre (34 ounces) of maple syrup, 40 litres (10.5 gallons) of sap must be boiled down.
- Boiling maple syrup results in the sweeter and thicker maple taffy which, when cooled on snow or ice, becomes candy-like. Use this recipe to make your own maple taffy at home!
Vanier Museopark
Located in the heart of a maple forest just 10 minutes east of Parliament Hill, the Vanier Museopark is the only francophone museum in the Canada’s capital region and home to the world’s only fully functional urban sugar shack (both closed until further notice)! The Museopark’s annual Sugar Festival is hosting online programming in March and April 2021. You can watch videos of the maple production process, enjoy workshops on cooking, dancing and creative activities, and vote for your favourite local soup by purchasing a special take-home tasting kit.
Omega Park
Less than an hour’s drive from downtown Ottawa in Montebello, Quebec, you can visit a large wildlife park that focuses on Canadian animals and First Nations’ history. All year long (and even during COVID-19) at Omega Park, you can take a Canadian safari through the natural habitat of animals like deer, elk, bison, caribou and wolves. There are also various trails and seasonal activities. This year, the on-site sugar shack is open on weekends and during Quebec March Break (Feb. 27-Mar. 7, 2021). Maple taffy and other products are available for purchase, however meals and other additional programming are not available.
Fulton’s Pancake House and Sugar Bush
Located in Pakenham, Ont., just under an hour’s drive west of downtown Ottawa, the family-run Fulton’s Pancake House and Sugar Bush sits on a 400-acre rural property. Fulton’s 2021 maple season offers for takeout food, as well as their maple culinary and spa products (available at the farm store or online). You can also walk, snowshoe or ski the 8 kilometres of trails (access fees may apply). During this maple season, Fulton’s is open Thursday through Saturday, plus other select days.
Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm
Stanley’s Olde Maple Lane Farm, located about 30 minutes east of downtown Ottawa in Edwards, Ont., has adapted some of their offerings for health and safety. Stanley’s maple season (weekends only) includes access to the sugar shack, maple taffy, the animal barn, and a new Walkabout menu that can be enjoyed while you explore. Also new this year: you can access 2 kilometres of trails on their property any day of the week.
Proulx Maple & Berry Farm
Located just east of Ottawa in Cumberland, Ont., Proulx Maple & Berry Farm is hosting a Weekend Maple Festival. Reserve your two-hour time slot in advance for a physically-distanced experience. Admission includes a treat, a beverage, as well as access to the sugar shack, petting farm and country trails. Fire pit access available for an extra fee.
Log Farm
The Log Farm, a pioneer-style working farm located in the Nepean area just west of downtown, won’t be hosting sugar bush programming this season. However, you’ll be able to buy their products at their farm store once it opens (verify hours).
Market vendors
Several maple farms and vendors from around the region have stalls at markets throughout the city. So you can get your maple fix—including syrup, candy, fudge and much more—at the year-round daily Ottawa Markets (ByWard and Parkdale Market) and the weekly Ottawa Farmers’ Market on Sundays at Lansdowne.
Flapjack’s Canadian Diner
It’s always maple season at Flapjack’s, a Canadian-themed restaurant located just west of downtown Ottawa in the Little Italy neighbourhood. This diner is the perfect place to indulge in all your favourite lumberjack-inspired flavours like specialty buttermilk pancakes, battered maple bacon, poutine, panwiches (sandwiches made with pancakes!) and milkshakes.
Maple treatments at Holtz Spa
Did you know that maple syrup is rich in healing properties like antioxidants and minerals? This is why Fulton’s started their Maple Luscious Bath & Body Products line. Holtz Spa, located in downtown Ottawa, offers treatments that use these products. Choose from a maple manicure, pedicure, massage or maple sugar body scrub and wrap. You’ll love the feel and smell of these unique spa products!

11 Reasons Why Too Much Sugar Is Bad for You

From marinara sauce to peanut butter, added sugar can be found in even the most unexpected products.
Many people rely on quick, processed foods for meals and snacks. Since these products often contain added sugar, it makes up a large proportion of their daily calorie intake.
In the US, added sugars account for up to 17% of the total calorie intake of adults and up to 14% for children ( 1 ).
Dietary guidelines suggest limiting calories from added sugar to less than 10% per day ( 2 ).
Experts believe that sugar consumption is a major cause of obesity and many chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes.
Here are 11 reasons why eating too much sugar is bad for your health.

Share on Pinterest Nicole Katharina Schober / EyeEm / Getty Images
Rates of obesity are rising worldwide and added sugar, especially from sugar-sweetened beverages, is thought to be one of the main culprits.
Sugar-sweetened drinks like sodas, juices and sweet teas are loaded with fructose, a type of simple sugar.
Consuming fructose increases your hunger and desire for food more than glucose, the main type of sugar found in starchy foods ( 3 ).
Additionally, excessive fructose consumption may cause resistance to leptin, an important hormone that regulates hunger and tells your body to stop eating ( 4 ).
In other words, sugary beverages don’t curb your hunger, making it easy to quickly consume a high number of liquid calories. This can lead to weight gain.
Research has consistently shown that people who drink sugary beverages, such as soda and juice, weigh more than people who don’t ( 5 ).
Also, drinking a lot of sugar-sweetened beverages is linked to an increased amount of visceral fat, a kind of deep belly fat associated with conditions like diabetes and heart disease ( 6 ).
SummaryConsuming too much added sugar, especially from sugary beverages, increases your risk of weight gain and can lead to visceral fat accumulation.
High-sugar diets have been associated with an increased risk of many diseases, including heart disease, the number one cause of death worldwide ( 7 ).
Evidence suggests that high-sugar diets can lead to obesity, inflammation and high triglyceride, blood sugar and blood pressure levels — all risk factors for heart disease ( 8 ).
Additionally, consuming too much sugar, especially from sugar-sweetened drinks, has been linked to atherosclerosis, a disease characterized by fatty, artery-clogging deposits ( 9 ).
A study in over 30,000 people found that those who consumed 17–21% of calories from added sugar had a 38% greater risk of dying from heart disease, compared to those consuming only 8% of calories from added sugar ( 10 ).
Just one 16-ounce (473-ml) can of soda contains 52 grams of sugar, which equates to more than 10% of your daily calorie consumption, based on a 2,000-calorie diet (11).
This means that one sugary drink a day can already put you over the recommended daily limit for added sugar.
SummaryConsuming too much added sugar increases heart disease risk factors such as obesity, high blood pressure and inflammation. High-sugar diets have been linked to an increased risk of dying from heart disease.
A diet high in refined carbs, including sugary foods and drinks, has been associated with a higher risk of developing acne.
Foods with a high glycemic index, such as processed sweets, raise your blood sugar more rapidly than foods with a lower glycemic index.
Sugary foods quickly spike blood sugar and insulin levels, causing increased androgen secretion, oil production and inflammation, all of which play a role in acne development ( 12 ).
Studies have shown that low-glycemic diets are associated with a reduced acne risk, while high-glycemic diets are linked to a greater risk ( 13 ).
For example, a study in 2,300 teens demonstrated that those who frequently consumed added sugar had a 30% greater risk of developing acne ( 14 ).
Also, many population studies have shown that rural communities that consume traditional, non-processed foods have almost non-existent rates of acne, compared to more urban, high-income areas ( 15 ).
These findings coincide with the theory that diets high in processed, sugar-laden foods contribute to the development of acne.
SummaryHigh-sugar diets can increase androgen secretion, oil production and inflammation, all of which can raise your risk of developing acne.
The worldwide prevalence of diabetes has more than doubled over the past 30 years ( 16 ).
Though there are many reasons for this, there is a clear link between excessive sugar consumption and diabetes risk.
Obesity, which is often caused by consuming too much sugar, is considered the strongest risk factor for diabetes ( 17 ).
What’s more, prolonged high-sugar consumption drives resistance to insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates blood sugar levels.
Insulin resistance causes blood sugar levels to rise and strongly increases your risk of diabetes.
A population study comprising over 175 countries found that the risk of developing diabetes grew by 1.1% for every 150 calories of sugar, or about one can of soda, consumed per day ( 18 ).
Other studies have also shown that people who drink sugar-sweetened beverages, including fruit juice, are more likely to develop diabetes ( 19 , 20 ).
SummaryA high-sugar diet may lead to obesity and insulin resistance, both of which are risk factors for type 2 diabetes.
Eating excessive amounts of sugar may increase your risk of developing certain cancers.
First, a diet rich in sugary foods and beverages can lead to obesity, which significantly raises your risk of cancer ( 21 ).
Furthermore, diets high in sugar increase inflammation in your body and may cause insulin resistance, both of which increase cancer risk ( 22 ).
A study in over 430,000 people found that added sugar consumption was positively associated with an increased risk of esophageal cancer, pleural cancer and cancer of the small intestine ( 23 ).
Another study showed that women who consumed sweet buns and cookies more than three times per week were 1.42 times more likely to develop endometrial cancer than women who consumed these foods less than 0.5 times per week ( 24 ).
Research on the link between added sugar intake and cancer is ongoing, and more studies are needed to fully understand this complex relationship.
SummaryToo much sugar can lead to obesity, insulin resistance and inflammation, all of which are risk factors for cancer.
While a healthy diet can help improve your mood, a diet high in added sugar and processed foods may increase your chances of developing depression.
Consuming a lot of processed foods, including high-sugar products such as cakes and sugary drinks, has been associated with a higher risk of depression ( 25 , 26 ).
Researchers believe that blood sugar swings, neurotransmitter dysregulation and inflammation may all be reasons for sugar’s detrimental impact on mental health ( 27 ).
A study following 8,000 people for 22 years showed that men who consumed 67 grams or more of sugar per day were 23% more likely to develop depression than men who ate less than 40 grams per day ( 28 ).
Another study in over 69,000 women demonstrated that those with the highest intakes of added sugars had a significantly greater risk of depression, compared to those with the lowest intakes ( 29 ).
SummaryA diet rich in added sugar and processed foods may increase depression risk in both men and women.
Wrinkles are a natural sign of aging. They appear eventually, regardless of your health.
However, poor food choices can worsen wrinkles and speed the skin aging process.
Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are compounds formed by reactions between sugar and protein in your body. They are suspected to play a key role in skin aging ( 30 ).
Consuming a diet high in refined carbs and sugar leads to the production of AGEs, which may cause your skin to age prematurely ( 31 ).
AGEs damage collagen and elastin, which are proteins that help the skin stretch and keep its youthful appearance.
When collagen and elastin become damaged, the skin loses its firmness and begins to sag.
In one study, women who consumed more carbs, including added sugars, had a more wrinkled appearance than women on a high-protein, lower-carb diet ( 32 ).
The researchers concluded that a lower intake of carbs was associated with better skin-aging appearance ( 32 ).
SummarySugary foods can increase the production of AGEs, which can accelerate skin aging and wrinkle formation.
Telomeres are structures found at the end of chromosomes, which are molecules that hold part or all of your genetic information.
Telomeres act as protective caps, preventing chromosomes from deteriorating or fusing together.
As you grow older, telomeres naturally shorten, which causes cells to age and malfunction ( 33 ).
Although the shortening of telomeres is a normal part of aging, unhealthy lifestyle choices can speed up the process.
Consuming high amounts of sugar has been shown to accelerate telomere shortening, which increases cellular aging ( 34 ).
A study in 5,309 adults showed that regularly drinking sugar-sweetened beverages was associated with shorter telomere length and premature cellular aging ( 35 ).
In fact, each daily 20-ounce (591-ml) serving of sugar-sweetened soda equated to 4.6 additional years of aging, independent of other variables ( 35 ).
SummaryEating too much sugar can accelerate the shortening of telomeres, which increases cellular aging.
Foods high in added sugar quickly spike blood sugar and insulin levels, leading to increased energy.
However, this rise in energy levels is fleeting.
Products that are loaded with sugar but lacking in protein, fiber or fat lead to a brief energy boost that’s quickly followed by a sharp drop in blood sugar, often referred to as a crash ( 36 ).
Having constant blood sugar swings can lead to major fluctuations in energy levels ( 37 ).
To avoid this energy-draining cycle, choose carb sources that are low in added sugar and rich in fiber.
Pairing carbs with protein or fat is another great way to keep your blood sugar and energy levels stable.
For example, eating an apple along with a small handful of almonds is an excellent snack for prolonged, consistent energy levels.
SummaryHigh-sugar foods can negatively impact your energy levels by causing a spike in blood sugar followed by a crash.
A high intake of fructose has been consistently linked to an increased risk of fatty liver.
Unlike glucose and other types of sugar, which are taken up by many cells throughout the body, fructose is almost exclusively broken down by the liver.
In the liver, fructose is converted into energy or stored as glycogen.
However, the liver can only store so much glycogen before excess amounts are turned into fat.
Large amounts of added sugar in the form of fructose overload your liver, leading to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), a condition characterized by excessive fat buildup in the liver ( 38 ).
A study in over 5,900 adults showed that people who drank sugar-sweetened beverages daily had a 56% higher risk of developing NAFLD, compared to people who did not ( 39 ).
SummaryEating too much sugar may lead to NAFLD, a condition in which excessive fat builds up in the liver.
Aside from the risks listed above, sugar can harm your body in countless other ways.
Research shows that too much added sugar can:
- Increase kidney disease risk: Having consistently high blood sugar levels can cause damage to the delicate blood vessels in your kidneys. This can lead to an increased risk of kidney disease ( 40 ).
- Negatively impact dental health: Eating too much sugar can cause cavities. Bacteria in your mouth feed on sugar and release acid byproducts, which cause tooth demineralization ( 41 ).
- Increase the risk of developing gout:Gout is an inflammatory condition characterized by pain in the joints. Added sugars raise uric acid levels in the blood, increasing the risk of developing or worsening gout ( 42 ).
- Accelerate cognitive decline: High-sugar diets can lead to impaired memory and have been linked to an increased risk of dementia (43).
Research on the impact of added sugar on health is ongoing, and new discoveries are constantly being made.
SummaryConsuming too much sugar may worsen cognitive decline, increase gout risk, harm your kidneys and cause cavities.
Excessive added sugar has many negative health effects.
Although consuming small amounts now and then is perfectly healthy, you should try to cut back on sugar whenever possible.
Fortunately, simply focusing on eating whole, unprocessed foods automatically decreases the amount of sugar in your diet.
- Swap sodas, energy drinks, juices and sweetened teas for water or unsweetened seltzer.
- Drink your coffee black or use Stevia for a zero-calorie, natural sweetener.
- Sweeten plain yogurt with fresh or frozen berries instead of buying flavored, sugar-loaded yogurt.
- Consume whole fruits instead of sugar-sweetened fruit smoothies.
- Replace candy with a homemade trail mix of fruit, nuts and a few dark chocolate chips.
- Use olive oil and vinegar in place of sweet salad dressings like honey mustard.
- Choose marinades, nut butters, ketchup and marinara sauce with zero added sugars.
- Look for cereals, granolas and granola bars with under 4 grams of sugar per serving.
- Swap your morning cereal for a bowl of rolled oats topped with nut butter and fresh berries, or an omelet made with fresh greens.
- Instead of jelly, slice fresh bananas onto your peanut butter sandwich.
- Use natural nut butters in place of sweet spreads like Nutella.
- Avoid alcoholic beverages that are sweetened with soda, juice, honey, sugar or agave.
- Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, focusing on fresh, whole ingredients.
In addition, keeping a food diary is an excellent way of becoming more aware of the main sources of sugar in your diet.
The best way to limit your added sugar intake is to prepare your own healthy meals at home and avoid buying foods and drinks that are high in added sugar.
SummaryFocusing on preparing healthy meals and limiting your intake of foods that contain added sweeteners can help you cut back on the amount of sugar in your diet.
Eating too much added sugar can have many negative health effects.
An excess of sweetened foods and beverages can lead to weight gain, blood sugar problems and an increased risk of heart disease, among other dangerous conditions.
For these reasons, added sugar should be kept to a minimum whenever possible, which is easy when you follow a healthy diet based on whole foods.
If you need to cut added sugar from your diet, try some of the small changes listed above.
Before you know it, your sugar habit will be a thing of the past.

Did you know that Maple Syrup is entirely a North American product?
New York, Vermont, and Ontario, Canada are the prime commercial locations able to harvest maple tree sap to produce syrup, along with a few other locations around the Great Lakes and New England.

The best way to fully appreciate fresh syrup is with a full stack of pancakes dripping with liquid gold!
Commercial farms, nature centers, and restaurants create a fun atmosphere offering maple-flavored cotton candy, ice cream, BBQ sauce, milkshakes, mustard, scones, cheesecake, popcorn, hot chocolate, baked beans, or sugar on snow.
This is also a prime opportunity for them to sell products including maple syrup, candy, butter, and cream.
These maple-licious destinations have a similar agenda of activities that likely include:
- Walking through the sugar bush to see maple trees tapped with spiles, using buckets or bags for collection.
- Learn to identify maple trees suitable for tapping (species and age are significant!)
- Learn about the logistics for getting sap to the sugar shack.
- Watch the sap boil, and water evaporate. Learn what temperature it needs to be heated to.
- Learn about old-fashioned techniques and modern technological advances in food & tree safety and quality (reverse osmosis, vacuum pumps, UV lights, tubing systems).

These are still some of our favorite sugar shacks, and we hope to be able to spend time with them once again in 2022.

12. Moore’s Maple Shack and Pancake House
From their website, “It deeply saddens us to have to make another post like this again, however, we have decided to remain closed for the 2021 season. We will keep everyone posted on when we start boiling for the season – and when 2021’s syrup will be available. We will also be announcing days where you can stop in for syrup, frozen sausage, or pancake mix at a later date!”
Find out which locally grown produce (fruits, vegetables, plants) are at their peak each month, and enjoy Rochester-area harvest festivals.
There are U-Pick farms all around the Greater Rochester Area. Often times, picking your own product is as much a family adventure as it is entertainment!
These ideas for winter walks should motivate you to step outside for some fresh air and, with any luck, sunshine. Bundle up!
You don’t have to wait for Small Business Saturday to shop local! We have some incredibly talented individuals throughout the Rochester area.
